Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student understands the concept of information and knows fundamentals of computer science and library and information science in the field of humanities; he/she possesses theoretical knowledge, methodological skills and techniques to catalogue audiovisual documents (specially theatre and film).
Course contents
The course will guide the students in learning the principles at the basis of digital objects production in the humanistic domain
Contents
Introduction to Digital Humanities and digital information.
Computer Networks and communication protocols. Internet and WWW.
Information Literacy and Information retrieval. Search engines: Opac, directories or portals, social network (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook)
Library information systems (SBN). FRBR. metadata for libraries. Descriptive standards , indexing systems. Notes on Thesaurus principles, especially in theatre field.
Digital Lybrary notion. Hints on Big data e digital platforms

Teaching methods
Lessons will be theoretical and practical, with presentation of examples online and laboratory.
The practical activity of the laboratory should equip students with the skills needed to catalogue audiovisual documents.
Assessment methods
The examination takes place in a test, including three issues. One question on each of the part of the course contents: notions of libray and information science; search strategies and technologies on digital platforms; bibliographic control and cataloguing methods of audiovisual documents.
It will be possible, for the attending students only, present a short paper (4.000 / 6.000 characters) on a topic, previously agreed with the teacher.
Teaching tools
Classes are held in classrooms equipped with computer lab with PCs connected to the intranet and Internet.

Theory lessons will always be accompanied by a practical part: critical analysis and use of the tools available (Web sites, software)
