Learning outcomes

The course consists in learning methods relating to the Non Destructive  Techniques (NDT) aimed to assess the structural beavhiour and seismic vulnerability of Monuments and Historical Buildings.The course intends to provide the students a methodology for screening of such buildings for potential seismic hazards.

Course contents

The activity is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part.

The first concerns the non destructive  techniques for knowledge, interpretation of structural behavior and verification of the seismic vulnerability of monuments and historical structures. The most recent advances in instrumental monitoring will also be presented.

The practical part concerns  the operational methodologies that the Architect implements during the occurrence of earthquakes.

Teaching methods

The course consists of two teaching units:

The first takes 8 hours including lectures, visits and films, with the aim of acquiring a series of information that allow the student to evaluate the main aspects of control .

The second teaching unit takes 22 hours including seminar activities and workshops held at Heritage Buildings in the presence of  Civil Protection Operators.

Due to activities and teaching methods adopted, the frequency of this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in modules 1 and 2 safety training in the study places, in e-learning mode.

Assessment methods

The suitability of the AFPG - Structural Diagnostics Laboratory II course is achieved through the direct active participation in the workshops.
