Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminar the students, by means of contact with scholars of different sectors, are able to organize and collect coherently complex informations; the students, also, are able to apply critical analysis and they can preserve and value historical memory. The students are able to identify an important historical problem and are able to use appropriately the necessary sources to face it.

Course contents

The purpose of this seminar (The materials of history: archives, archivals, libraries, 4) is the students can acquire a lot of basic knowledges about main places that collect sources in Emilia-Romagna. Many external scholars will show, by means of significant examples, what was history of this places, what are their very useful archivals for medieval studies, how it is possible to do research in these places. The seminar is therefore a useful opportunity to focus methods and tools for thesis. It is obligatory to write a personal little thesis (from 5 to 10 pages) at the end of the seminar. Except the first lesson, held by the chair holder, all other lessons will be conducted exclusively by external lecturers. Lessons will be every thursday; first lesson 27th january 2022 h. 15-17 Hall "Seminari" and from 24th march Hall "Seminari 2" Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà. The students will be received on monday (h. 15-17), room 6,  II floor. Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà.

Now it is impossible to provide specific informations about books and texts. These will be provided, whenever necessary, in order of the arguments.

Teaching methods

The seminar will be organized according to external scolars' lessons (the chair holder will lecture only first lesson) who will bring their qualified experience about the matter. During the visits, instead, the students will be placed in closed contacts with the sources or series of sources deemed particularly significant by the experts. So the students will be called to an active partecipation and to a personal involvement.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods will be drawing up by the student of a short final work and the discussion of it with the teacher. It is required to be present al leat 12 of 15 lectures. The exam does not involve assignment of a numerical mark but rather of the eligibility.

Teaching tools

Reading of sources, PC for slides projection by guest speakers and visit to archives.
