Learning outcomes
The lectures and the tools provided bring students to examine, using original texts and documents, some key questions concerning the role of science and technology in contemporary society.
Course contents
"For an anthropology of science and technology"
What interesting stuff would observe an anthropologist studying technologically advanced societies with tools similar to those employed in the study of so-called "primitive” societies?
Lectures will address recent studies aimed at an anthropology of science and technology. We will use Bruno Latour's We have never been modern (Harvard University Press 2012) as a guide. Students will be encouraged to explore some special case studies, to be discussed in class.

Teaching methods
Active participation by students is encouraged, both in the form of frequent questions during lectures, and as reports to be presented and discussed in class. Materials examined in class will be made available through the course's website.

Assessment methods
Students can choose between an oral interview, focusing on Latour's book and the online teaching modules, or a written report on a theme agreed with the professor, to be discussed in class or as part of the oral interview. Evidence of the knowledge acquired through the study of Latour’s book plus the online teaching modules, or through the specific literature assigned by the teacher when preparing the individual report, will obtain a grade between 18/30 and 30/30. 30/30L (30/30 cum laude) will require evidence of the ability, on the part of the student, of autonomous, individual elaboration on the themes addressed during the course in answer to additional, specific questions by the teacher.
