Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the student: learns the basic knowledges and rules concerning communicative competence both in verbal and nonverbal systems; knows social aspects of communication in the realms of clothing and fashion; acquires some communicative tools and skills concerning emotional regulation in clinical and art therapies settings; obtains the basic knowledge concerning how communication can be appropriate and efficient; understands how some psychological tecniques such as clinical and survey interview are taken into consideration in the scientific study of psychology of communication.

Course contents

The course will deal with the following two subject matters.

 

1. Theoretical aspects

1.1. Basic concepts of communication

1.2. Visual and verbal codes

1.3. Non-verbal communication

 

2. Applied aspects

2.1. Communication in the management of conflicts

2.2. Communication and health promotion

2.3. Communication of risks and dangers

Teaching methods

Traditional lectures and PowerPoint presentations.

Assessment methods

- The learning will be assessed through an oral examination. Two questions will be asked, aimed to verify the learning outcomes.

- One question for each subject matter, as outlined within the section Course contents, will be asked.

- Each answer will receive a score between 0 and 15 based on the criteria of: a) completeness; b) explanatory clarity; c) ability of critical re-elaboration of learned material; d) ability to establish connections between the different course contents.

- The final grade will be the result of the sum of the scores assigned to each answer. The minimum performance to overcome the oral examination is to get a score of at least 9/15 for each answer. Honors will be awarded if a complete mastery of the subject matter will be shown with reference to each answer.

- During oral examination tools as calculators and dictionaries are not allowed.

- The registration to the oral examination should take place through the university application AlmaEsami, observing the expected deadlines.
