Learning outcomes

The main objective of this course is to provide basic knowledge on the following items:

-basic principles of the evidence-based prevention

-introduction to the main methods of the epidemiological studies used in public health

 

Course contents

- introduction to evidence-based prevention; human population and exposure variability; pros and cons of observational studies and trials in public health; randomized controlled trials and cluster randomized controlled trials; efficacy and effectiveness; effectiveness of a preventive intervention: data collection, data synthesis and evaluation of the evidence; traditional review of the literature; systematic review and metanalysis in evidence-based prevention.

Cochrane Collaboration and Cochrane Work; methodology in conducting a systematic review: search strategies; use of PubMed for literature search; systematic reviews: study selection and quality appraisal; introduction to writing a Cochrane review; development and evaluation of a preventive intervention.
