Mobility programmes and foreign stays for PhD students

PhD students wishing to spend a period abroad can participate in the Erasmus+ programme.

In all these cases, if the stay exceeds one month, PhD Students must meet the requirements for foreign stays placed on PhD Students.

The objective of the 'Marco Polo' programme is to promote the training abroad of young researchers from the University of Bologna, offering them the opportunity to begin research in an international context and to make contacts that will be useful throughout their careers.

The purpose of the international cooperation framework agreements (general University agreements) is to strengthen institutional, cultural, teaching and scientific relations between Universities and, in particular, to facilitate the mobility of researchers and teachers and/or students via exchanges. The framework agreement provide a general basis for bilateral or multilateral collaboration, which includes the incoming and outgoing mobility of PhD Students.

Sector agreements can be independently approved and signed by individual structures (departments, schools, interdepartmental centres, etc.) with similar structures at foreign Universities, in order to pursue teaching and research objectives using their own funds and resources. In the context of a sector agreement, foreign mobility can be arranged for PhD Students who belong to the structure that signed the agreement.

Interested persons should contact their departments directly for information about the current sector agreements and to apply for mobility under them.

If the stay exceeds one month, PhD Students must meet the requirements for foreign stays placed on PhD Students.
