Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students possesse a preparation that allows to address the different medicolegal issues related to the dental profession. In particular, the student is able to:
· Acquire knowledge of Italian legislation in the healthcare field, especially the criminal, civil, and ethical codes.
· Understand the etiological connections between their actions and legal norms.
· Comprehend appropriate behaviors and those that may lead to civil and criminal sanctions.
· Gain knowledge of traumatology, the mechanisms of injury production, and the legal implications of traumatic events.
· Assimilate the various aspects of professional responsibility and implement healthcare behaviors to avoid any involvement.
· Recognize different legal domains, starting with ethical implications.
· Learn professional obligations.
· Understand sanctions in case of non-compliance.
· Develop a correct professional relationship with the patient.
· Acquire knowledge of the organization and characteristics of both private and social insurance issues.
· Be capable of correctly fulfilling certain legal commitments (reports, documentation, medical certificates).
Course contents
Medicolegal Discipline and Personal Injury: Overview of the medicolegal discipline and damage to the person.
Forensic Medicine in Criminal Law: Examination of key offenses of medicolegal interest, including homicide, personal injuries, failure to provide assistance, and crimes against personal freedom.
Reporting and Notification to Judicial Authorities: Procedures for preparing reports and reporting to judicial authorities.
Ethical Aspects of the Profession: Exploration of the ethical aspects of the dental profession.
Professional and Official Secrecy: Understanding professional and official secrecy.
Consent to Medical Treatment, Refusal/Revocation (Law 219/2017): Examination of the legal aspects of consent to medical treatment, refusal, and revocation according to Law 219/2017.
Shared Decision-Making: Overview of the shared decision-making process.
Introduction to Traumatology and Forensic Dentistry: Basic concepts in traumatology and forensic dentistry.
Interpersonal Violence: Brief overview of interpersonal violence.
