Learning outcomes

Basic knowledge of diseases cured with surgical operation both elective and emergency.

Course contents

  • Presentation and introduction of the program. Rationale of the General Surgery course, intersection points between General Surgery and Podiatry.
  • Total and partial onychectomy (Indications, techniques, postoperative treatment, complications)
  • Lower limb ulcers (diagnosis, treatment, prevention): Venous, Arterial, Neuropathic/Diabetic.
  • Wounds and foot trauma. First aid (bleeding, foot skin wounds, subungual hematoma, nail avulsion or laceration).
  • Colonic diverticulosis and divertricular disease (acute diverticulitis, SCAD, SUDD)
  • Acute appendicitis: diagnosis, treatments.
  • Lithiasis pathologies of the gallbladder: Cholecystitis, Biliary Colic, Acute pancreatitis, biliary ileus...
  • Nail matrix transplant
