Final examination

The final exam in bachelor's and master's degree programs: how to apply, the defense, and the graduation diploma.

To graduate, you have to sit a final examination to verify that you have reached the learning outcomes set out by the Degree Programme. The final examination may be oral, written or practical.

Each programme may have different ways of preparing and discussing the final examination. You will find specific information on the programme website.

The characteristics of the final examination are set out in the teaching regulations of your Degree Programme. The Examination Board assesses the candidate, taking into account their academic career and performance in the final examination; the Board’s assessment is expressed out of 110. The final examination is considered passed with a minimum mark of 66/110. In the event of the maximum mark (110/110), the Board may award honours (cum laude) according to the criteria established by the Degree Programme.

The average degree score

The average degree score is calculated by transforming the weighted average grades of the exams, which are expressed with a grade out of thirty, into a grade out of one hundred and ten.

For previous degree programme systems, the average is obtained by summing all grades and dividing the total by the number of valid exams with a grade (pass-fail exams are not valid exams); the result is first multiplied by 110 and then divided by 30.

For reformed degree programme systems (under DM 509/99 and DM 270/04) to calculate the average (pass-fail exams are excluded), each grade is multiplied by the corresponding amount of credits obtained by passing the exam; the totals are added together and then divided by the total number of credits obtained; also in this case, the result is multiplied by 110 and then divided by 30.
