Laurea (First cycle degree/Bachelor - 180 ECTS) in Podology (for certified professional podologists)

After an objective examination of the foot through bloodless, orthetic and hydro-massage therapeutical methods, graduates will directly treat calluses, hyperthrophic, deformed and ingrowing nails, as well as foot pain. Based on medical prescription, graduates will perform medication of foot verrucas and ulcers.

Graduates will:

1. Train medical operators able to directly cure the pathologies of the foot in compliance with current regulations;
2. Understand the basics of pathophysiology applicable to specific pathologies of the foot and musculoskeletal system;
3. Identify the needs for podological assistance in relation to the different age segments, different pathologies or disabilities and working and sports activities;
4. Learn the cultural and professional principles guiding the diagnostic, cultural and technical process of the podological interventions on the person being assisted.
5. Develop programmes for health education to prevent postural pathologies;
6. Implement objective examinations of the foot, identify its alterations also through specific diagnostic instruments and intervene through bloodless, orthetic and hydro-massaging therapeutic methods on calluses, hyperthrophic, ingrowing and deformed nails as well as on foot pain.
7. Collaborate in diagnosis and therapy of pathological problems of the foot in children, adults and the elderly, related to mechanical, postural, metabolic disorders, traumatic, infective and hereditary pathologies;
8. Based on medical prescription, prevent and perform medication of foot ulcers, verrucas and assist the subjects, carriers of potential risk diseases, also for the health care education purposes.
9. Implement orthetic treatments for foot therapy.

10. Identify and notify the physician of suspected pathological conditions requiring diagnosis or therapeutical intervention;
11. Identify foot pathologies linked to the various working activities due to the use of footwear, as well as prevent biomechanical and traumatic pathologies of the foot linked to types of working activities, through adequate health education;
12. Show abilities of relation with patients;
13. Plan and manage own interventions by interacting with other operators in the respect of each others competences;
14. Take decisions consistent with the technical-scientific, legal and ethical dimensions governing freelance work, healthcare organisations and professional responsibilities.
