Learning outcomes
Describe the steps of a protocol for the immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry labelling of immune cells in paraffin-embedded tissues.
Course contents
This is a practical laboratory course in which students will perform an immunofluorescence assay for the labeling of immune cells.
Students will gain knowledge of the immunofluorescence protocol. The rationale behind the protocol, as well as its technical steps, will be presented during the practical laboratory session. In addition, the biological characteristics and functions of mast cells, together with examples of diseases in which these immune cells play a significant role, will be explored.

Teaching methods
The course will combine lecture-based teaching methods with active learning approaches, including:
- hands-on immunofluorescence wet-lab activities;
- traditional lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations.
Assessment methods
Attendance is mandatory.
Students who do not meet the minimum laboratory attendance requirement of 60% will not be eligible to take the examination for the integrated course.
