from Sep 28, 2026 to Dec 15, 2026
Learning outcomes
Students acquire advanced knowledge of the linguistic and discursive aspects of the Arabic language from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, with applications to textual analysis and translation. They develop active and passive communicative skills approaching level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and cultivate critical abilities to interpret sociolinguistic and cultural codes in interactions. The course fosters the development of an in-depth awareness of semantic and morphosyntactic aspects, as well as the intrinsic logic of the Arabic language, and integrates activities aimed at comparing different texts and linguistic codes, promoting multilingualism and intercultural understanding, while also providing useful tools for language teaching.
Course contents
The course leads the student towards an advanced use of the Arabic language and a mastery of morphological and syntactic structures. The course includes the study of contemporary texts on current cultural and social issues, addressed through in-depth analysis of the text both from a morphosyntactic point of view and with regard to semantic analysis, with a look at diglossia and linguistic variation. There is no additional material for non-attending students. Students, both attending and non-attending, must register on Virtuale. In the first semester the exercises will be held by the tutor Sana Darghmouni, D0457 - Arabic Language Exercises 1 (LM), 40 hours.

Teaching methods
Methods of working on receptive skills and integrated skills are employed.
Assessment methods
The exam includes a written test and an oral test. The written test with the tutor consists of written re-elaboration and questions relating to the texts; the oral exam with the teacher consists of a presentation in Arabic prepared by the student on the basis of the topics covered during the course. At the end of the lectures of the first semester in December 2026, students can take an oral exam that exempts them from part of the final exam. AI can be a useful tool to support individual study with insights, summaries, and self-assessment. As for learning assessment, the use of AI is prohibited during in-person exams. Any use constitutes a violation of academic integrity. The use of a paper dictionary is permitted.
