O0042 - Linguistic-Communicative, Logical-Inductive and Deductive knowledge (OFA)

Academic Year 2026/2027

Course contents

PLEASE NOTE: This programme for catching up on the Additional Educational Requirement (OFA) is aimed at students enrolled on the degree programme in Educational Sciences in Social, Cultural and Community Contexts at the Bologna campus and on the degree programme in Educational Sciences for Early Years Services.

To find out whether you have fulfilled the OFA requirement, go to SOL, search for your Study Plan and check whether ‘OFA’ is indicated.

Students who were assigned the OFA requirement in the Entrance Test for the degree programme in Educational Sciences in Social and Cultural Contexts in Bologna or in Educational Sciences for Early Years Services are required to read the instructions on the following pages carefully

https://corsi.unibo.it/laurea/ScienzeEducazioneSocialiCulturaliBologna

https://corsi.unibo.it/laurea/ScienzeEducazioneInfanzia/cosa-sono-e-come-assolvere-gli-ofa

where they will find all the relevant information.

Specifically, the 30-hour OFA remedial course organised by the degree programmes in Education Sciences in Social, Cultural and Community Contexts and in Education Sciences for Early Years Services will include activities focused on the following content:

a. revision and consolidation of spelling, grammar and syntax;

b. expansion and assessment of lexical, morphological and syntactic skills;

c. in-depth reading of narrative, descriptive/informative and argumentative texts, as well as tables and graphs;

d. analysis and deconstruction of texts with a view to reconstructing, expanding and summarising them;

e. text types, analysis and drafting of specialist texts;

f. an introduction to rhetorical strategies

Lectures for the course specifically dedicated to OFA catch-up will take place from January 2027, with a timetable to be published shortly on the websites of the degree programmes in Education Sciences in Social, Cultural and Community Contexts in Bologna and Education Sciences for Early Years Services, as well as on this page.

To attend the OFA course, enrolment is NOT required, but you must attend lessons on the days and at the times indicated on the OFA course website.

The OFA course is not compulsory but is strongly recommended for making up a learning deficit identified during the TOLC assessment.

Passing the OFA exam leads to the award of a pass without a mark which, once recorded on Almaesami, will enable the student to definitively fulfil their OFA requirement and continue their studies.

The tutor for the OFA course in Educational Sciences in Social, Cultural and Community Contexts in Bologna and Educational Sciences for Early Years Services is Prof. Francesco Bruno, who can be contacted by email at francesco.bruno14@unibo.it

Readings/Bibliography

During the course, specially prepared materials created by the lecturer will be presented. Further recommendations will be provided during the course.

Attendance is very important and strongly recommended.

For non-attending students, in addition to the online material, the following texts may be useful (though not compulsory):

L. Serianni, Leggere, scrivere, argomentare: prove ragionate di scrittura, Bari, Laterza, 2013.

G. Patota, Prontuario di grammatica, Bari, Laterza, 2013.

Teaching methods

Lectures and discussion-based sessions; distance learning activities via the e-learning-cds platform (specific instructions will be provided in class); laboratory work and individual and group exercises.

The examination will consist of a 60-minute written test, which will assess candidates’ knowledge of spelling, vocabulary, text-related skills (production and comprehension), and logical-linguistic skills.

The results of the examination will be published on the “Almaesami” platform.

PLEASE NOTE: To sit the exam, you must register via the “Almaesami” platform, strictly adhering to the specified deadlines. Anyone unable to register by the deadline due to technical issues must promptly report the problem to the academic office (and in any case before the official closure of the registration lists).

Students enrolled for the 2026–2027 academic year are reminded that it is NOT possible to sit the OFA exam before the course begins, i.e. from January 2027.
