Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will:

• possess the fundamental pedagogical knowledge and competences required to independently design and manage educational pathways in the fields of physical activity, movement, and play-based sports, both in school and non-formal educational settings, in collaboration with professionals from related disciplines;
• be able to observe, analyse, and evaluate educational contexts using appropriate pedagogical frameworks, consistently integrating theoretical perspectives with educational practice.

Course contents

General Pedagogy is understood here as the "Foundations of Pedagogy" and aims to introduce the core concepts of the discipline, whose primary object of study and research is education. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of:

• the fundamental concepts of pedagogy (e.g., the concept of education in contemporary society);
• the language of the discipline (e.g., developing a shared understanding of the teaching–learning relationship);
• research methods in pedagogy (e.g., what it means to conduct research in the educational and human sciences);
• the scope and boundaries of the educational sciences, including their areas of overlap with other disciplines and the potential for interdisciplinary educational interventions;
• key contemporary issues and ongoing debates (e.g., the relationship between education and sport).

Assessment methods

The final assessment consists of a written examination designed to evaluate the achievement of the following learning outcomes:

• understanding the meaning and role of education in contemporary society;
• understanding the relationship between pedagogy and the other educational sciences;
• understanding the principles and main applications of the experimental method in educational research;
• understanding the key contemporary issues in physical education.

The final grade is based on the average score obtained in three questions covering the main topics and learning objectives of the course.
