Learning outcomes

The seminar is intended for students interested in international arbitration and international commercial litigation. In particular, the seminar will address some procedural aspects of international arbitration and the main aspects of the Vienna Convention on the International Sale of Goods, i.e., the topics covered by the Willem C Vis Moot. The objective of the seminar is to provide students with an initial theoretical-practical approach on the issues covered and also to select the members of the Unibo team for the Vis Moot. Being held in the II Semester, in fact, upon its completion it will be possible to form the group that, after the summer, will begin work on the competition problem. By the end of the workshop, the student has acquired basic skills to resolve legal issues in the field of international commercial arbitration.

Course contents

The workshop is dedicated to students who are passionate about international arbitration and private and procedural international law.

The lessons will have a theoretical and practical content and will be dedicated to the subjects covered by the Willem C Vis Moot and the Pax Moot, the two international competitions for which Prof. Lupoi organizes and prepares a team of students from the Department of Legal Sciences every year, i. e.: international arbitration; the Vienna convention on the international sale of goods; cross-border jurisdiction.

These topics will be explored also with the participation of external lecturers and professionals.

Readings/Bibliography

Prof. Lupoi will provide participants with slides and other materials to further explore the topics covered in class.

Teaching methods

The workshop will be theoretical and practical in nature. Students will be invited to discuss the topics covered in class, with reference to hypothetical cases.

Class attendance is mandatory: at least 20 out of 24 hours.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist of a written test in which students will answer two open questions related to the topics covered in class.

The result of the test will be either PASS or FAIL.

Students interested in being selected for the Vis Moot and Pax Moot 2027 teams may substitute the written test with participation in a moot court.

Both the final test and the moot court will take place on the last day of the seminar, as per calendar which will be provided by the lecturer.
