98349 - Polish Language Exercises (LM)

Course contents

The classe will be led by Dr. Marta Wanicka and will be held twice a week during the first semester (Note: In the second semester, students must attend lectures in Polish with Professors Ceccherelli and Bąkowska).

At the beginning of the course, students will take a C1-level placement test to assess their language proficiency and tailor the instruction on specific grammatical and/or lexical aspects to address any gaps identified.

The first weekly class will be dedicated to strengthening language skills, complemented by an exploration of Polish culture. Some of the topics covered in this part of the course will include the role of the humanities, art, contemporary Poland, and the evolving Polish language.

The second weekly class will address topics related to academic writing, including the stylistic characteristics of academic writing, text summarization, and the analysis and interpretation of poetic texts.

All materials used during the classes will be provided by the instructor or uploaded to the virtual platform.

Assessment methods

Non-native speakers will be required to take a four-hour written exam at the C2 level. In addition, the accuracy and appropriateness of the language used in assignments submitted for lectures will be evaluated.

Native-speaking students will not be required to take a written exam, but must prepare an assignment, which may consist of developing teaching materials for teaching Polish as a second language, analyzing poetic texts, or translating a narrative text from Italian into Polish. Native-speaking students are encouraged to consult with the instructor to agree on the topic of their assignment.
