Course contents

The course aims to address the history and concepts of intercultural pedagogy through a critical, postcolonial and intersectional pedagogy, sensitive to the cultural, social, historical, and political experiences of minorities and how these experiences should be recognized, understood, and valued in the educational and training processes of minors and adults.

The course's objective is to develop, together with students, a pedagogical "sabir," a navigation map of key terms useful for building welcoming, transcultural educational contexts capable of shaping and transforming thanks to the diverse histories and experiences of women, men, and boys who pass through the places of education, training, and care where we, as educators, accompany them.

Readings/Bibliography

The bibliography will be provided at the beginning of the course and uploaded to the Virtual platform, which all students (attending and non-attending) must access and register for.

Studying the shared materials (scientific articles, slides, etc.) is mandatory for the exam.

Teaching methods

Active teaching methods will be used during classes, including discussions, group work, writing exercises, and student debates on their own work or on texts and videos provided by the instructor.

Assessment methods

At the end of class, students (both attending and non-attending) will have to write an essay on the contents covered in the teaching module, developing a comparative analysis on a specific topic between Italy and their country of origin.
The exam will consist of an oral exam in English, in which students will be asked to briefly present and discuss this essay and will be asked questions on the required study material to supplement the presentation. Exam instructions and materials will also be available on the course's virtual space (slides and scientific articles).

Non-attending students are requested to contact the instructor well in advance to agree on the topic of the essay, which will be discussed during the exam.

Teaching tools

Slides, videos/documentaries, and study materials will also be available on the Virtual platform (students must register using their university credentials): https://virtuale.unibo.it
