Learning outcomes
To develop knowledge and understanding of the major phases in the history of schooling and educational institutions in Italy and Europe.
To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the historical evolution of the teaching profession in Italy and Europe.
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to the history of schooling, examining the origins and development of the school as a complex educational institution characterized by spaces, temporal structures, teaching tools, material culture, subjects, teachers, pupils, and parents. The course aims to foster historically informed and critical reflection, enabling teachers to develop a deeper awareness of the transformations that have shaped the contemporary Italian school system. Particular attention is given to selected issues related to the evolution of the Italian school system and the teaching profession, from the Unification of Italy to the present day, with reference to legislative, institutional, cultural, and pedagogical dimensions.
