Learning outcomes

The module aims to support the development of a technical product involving various industrial manufacturing processes.

At the end of the course, the student:

  • is able to approach the design process with an understanding of the industrial processes required to produce each component of the designed product;
  • is able to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different manufacturing techniques in relation to the aesthetic, economic, and performance outcomes each method can offer.

Course contents

Automatic machines as an industrial expression of the local territory

  • Business organization and the role of the designer

  • Cost/Time graph and target costing

  • Various stages of a project, from specifications to after-sales; Product development plan

  • Team management, negotiation, and public speaking

  • General design constraints (technology, costs, space)

  • Safety-related constraints (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC e Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230

    Ergonomic constraints

  • Industry-specific constraints (materials, GMP guidelines)
