Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student:
a) is familiar with the methodologies of scientific investigation procedures;
b) is able to design and conduct a scientific research study;
c) knows and is able to critically use psychological measurement tools.
Course contents
The course takes place in the second semester (from February to May) and is intended for second-year students. Lessons will be held at the Cesena (FC) campus of the School of Psychology and Education Sciences, Piazza Aldo Moro, 90.

Teaching methods
Lectures, in-depth seminars on specific topics, and group work.
Given the numerous in-depth examples covered in class, active attendance is strongly recommended.
Assessment methods
The exam aims to assess the achievement of the following learning objectives:

In-depth knowledge of methodologies and procedures of scientific investigation;
-
In-depth understanding of the concepts of reliability and validity of measurement and research;
-
Ability to design and conduct scientific research;
-
Critical knowledge and ability to use the psychological measurement tools covered in class.
Exams will be held in person.
The exam consists of an oral test (4 to 6 questions). The test is passed if the score obtained is at least 18 points.
During the oral exam, students will be assessed on their achievement of the course objectives and the content learned. The overall evaluation, expressed in thirtieths, will consider the following aspects:

completeness of answers;

ability to critically analyze the learned content;

ability to establish connections between theoretical concepts;
-
ability to apply theoretical concepts to the design and critical analysis of an experiment;
-
clarity of exposition and appropriate use of terminology;
-
engagement and active participation in class.
Assessment criteria for answers:
-
Score of 30: Answers are correct, thorough, well-structured; the student demonstrates the ability to connect topics and apply theoretical concepts to design and critically analyze an experiment.

Score of 28 to 29: Answers are correct and thorough, though with some inaccuracies. The student can connect topics and shows sufficient ability to apply theoretical concepts in planning and analyzing an experiment.

Score of 25 to 27: Answers are correct but incomplete. The student shows sufficient ability to connect topics and apply theoretical concepts.
-
Score of 21 to 24: Answers are correct but incomplete, imprecise, and poorly structured. The student demonstrates some ability to apply theoretical concepts critically.

Score of 18 to 20: Answers are correct but incomplete, imprecise, and poorly structured.
-
Score below 18: Answers are incorrect, highly incomplete, or not relevant.
Honors may be awarded if all the above aspects (1 to 6) are fully met and the student provides excellent answers to all questions.
All course topics may be included in the exam and will carry equal weight.
The use of any support material such as textbooks, notes, or digital aids is not allowed during the exam.
For students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or temporary/permanent disabilities:

To take the exam, registration is required via the electronic board, strictly within the set deadlines. Students unable to register due to technical issues must promptly inform the academic office. The instructor may decide to allow them to take the exam.
