Learning outcomes
The student will get in touch with the main manufacturing processes related to the fabrication of components for the chemical industry. In particular sheet metal forming and welding processes will be analyzed and discussed.
Course contents
Definition and classification of the main manufacturing processes. Massive and sheet metal plastic deformation processes, with particular stress on: rolling, stamping and calendering. Autogenous welding and brazing, with particular stress on GMAW, GTAW, shielded metal arc welding, submerged arc welding, laser beam welding and brazing. Sheet metal cutting processes, with particular reference to: waterjet, plasma and laser cutting. Machining processes: physical principles of machining processes and particular stress on turning, milling and drilling.
Readings/Bibliography
The main readings will be distributed through the Virtuale platform in the form of slides and lecture notes provided by the teacher.
Teaching methods
Classroom lectures and exercises.
Assessment methods
The final written exam will consist of: Exercises concernig process selection for the production of components with given characteristics. Written questions concerning the topics developed during the course. Quiz questions.
Teaching tools
During the course the teacher will exploit slides and lecture notes distributed by means of the Virtuale platform.
