Alessandro Fortunato is Full Professor of Manufacturing Technology at the University of Bologna. He received his PhD in
Mechanics of Materials and Manufacturing Technology in 2005 with a dissertation on laser welding technologies for metallic materials. He is a member of the PhD Board in
Automotive for Smart Mobility, Coordinator of the Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes in Mechanical Engineering, and Head of the
Centre of Advanced Laser Manufacturing. He is also Associate Editor of the Springer journal
Laser in Manufacturing and Material Processing. His research interests include laser material processing; laser additive manufacturing (AM); ultra-short laser–material interactions; laser applications in biomedicine; machine tools and machine tool dynamics; sustainable manufacturing; and laser-based manufacturing technologies for e-mobility. He is currently the Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network
