Course contents
Gender and Education/Science and Society
Contents:
This laboratory will be an occasion to familiarise with episodes and data on gender, education, science and society, today and throughout the 20th century. The examples studied will be understood in the context of the students' choices of training and professional fields. Comparative approaches will be preferred (we will observe how the Italian case compares to other national realities). Social studies of science will also be considered, as they make use of history as a tool to understand the present.
Programme:
Six meetings.
We will read and discuss texts and watch brief videos. We will visit two local science museums.
During the last meeting students will produce short, individual pieces of writing. We will also read and discuss some of these pieces.
Readings/Bibliography
Bibliographies and sitographies, as well as articles and essays in PDF form will be distributed by the teacher throughout the meetings.
Teaching methods
Inquiry-based learning. An active participation is highly recommended.
