Learning outcomes

Knowledge and use of the  main techniques of conference interpreting (simultaneous and consecutive interpreting) from French into Italian in different working fields.

Course contents

The course contents wills be structured as follows:
1. Professional presentation and delivery: accurate information, selection and use of the appropriate terminology, correct posture and voice.
2. Simultaneous and consecutive interpreting in specific fields with texts taken from technical and scientific conferences. Focus on specialized terminology and creation of word lists and glossaries.
3. Deontology of interpreters.

Teaching methods

Simultaneous and consecuitve interpreting exercises with texts taken from technical conferences on macro-themes like: law, architecture and land planning, medicine, agriculture, economics and finance.
Creation of  specific glossaries.

Assessment methods

The exam consists in a consecutive interpretation of 6-8 minutes and a simultaneous interpretation of 10-12 minutes of texts on specific topics dealt with during the year.

Students shall demonstrate full mastery of the simultaneous and consecuitve interpretation techniques, with a particular focus on professional presentation and correct use of language and terminology.

Teaching tools

Consecutive and simultaneous interpretation of printed and video-recorded conference speeches of specialist topics.

Consecutive interpreting sessions will be held in videoconference (Virtual Classes) with the interpreters of the DG Interpretation of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
