Abstract
The PatOS project aims to explore the early stages of osteosarcoma (OS) formation, focusing on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and its impact on OS progression. The project uses 3D co-cultures of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and OS cells, along with patient-derived specimens, to investigate OS differentiation and TME formation. By employing advanced biomaterials and synchrotron-based X-ray techniques such as phase contrast nano-tomography, nano-diffraction, and nano-fluorescence microscopy, PatOS aims to study the TME, with the goal of uncovering novel therapeutic approaches to promote OS differentiation and improve the prognosis of OS patients. The results could lead to more effective treatments, enhancing both survival rates and the quality of life for OS patients. The project will also contribute to the broader understanding of tumor biology, offering new insights into the relationship between cellular differentiation and the TME.
