2019 Highly Cited Researchers: four researchers from the University of Bologna among the most cited in the world

Clarivate Analytics released its list of highly cited researchers, which identifies scholars who obtained the highest number of citations in their field and year of publication.

Highly Cited Researchers

Four Unibo researchers are in this year's list. The Highly Cited Researcher ranking collects thousands of researchers from all over the world, among these more or less a hundred are from Italy.

The four Unibo researchers in the list are: Laura Airoldi, Associate Professor at the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences; Alessandro Serretti, Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences; Michele Cavo and Nazzareno Galiè, professors at the Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine.

This is the fifth year Clarivate Analytics complies this influential list. The methodology consists in collecting and processing metadata about scientific publications in several research fields. The 2019 ranking takes into consideration 21 different fields, including clinical medicine, physics, maths, engineering and many more. The list gathers approximately 6.216 researchers, who stood out for their research output and therefore ended up in the top 1% of the most significant researchers worldwide, thanks to the high number of references of their papers. 91 of these scholars are from Italy.

This is a meaningful list, awarding countries widely known for their research efforts as well as new emerging realities and Nobel Prizes.
