Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

Organic chemistry for nanotechnology represents the next generation of innovation beyond the current applications of organic chemistry. Preliminarily, basic principle of nanotechnology will be introduced, and a quick overview of the metallic nanoparticles’ synthetic methods will be presented to the student. Main objective of the course is the understanding the role of the organic functional groups in the Self Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) of several metallic nanoparticles. At the end of the course the student will face the application of the organic chemistry for nanotechnologies to the Nanomedicine with some experimental laboratories. The use of the instruments DLS (Dynamic light scattering) will be also part of the skills (size determination of the nanoparticles and more information) that will be accomplished at the end of the course

Metodi didattici

Theoretic lessons will be combined with the analysis of modern and advanced literatures to apply the concepts explained.

Four laboratories will be dedicated to the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of organic-metal nanoparticles.

To participate to the teaching laboratory of this course, all students must attend Modules 1 and 2 [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas] online, while Module 3 on health and safety is to be attended in class. Information about Module 3 attendance schedule is available on the website of your degree programme.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

The final examination will determine the level reached by the student in the objectives set out in the " Learning outcomes”

The assessment of the learning consists in oral presentation of the students on a selected research topic learned during the course.

To carry out the oral exam registration is required through "Alma exams ", in respect of the mandatory deadlines.

The students will have to use the power point with a maximum of 15 slides according to materials deduced using 1 paper among 2-3 papers proposed to the teacher.

Mark will consider how the student will sketch out the "state of the art", and how he/she will describe the results obtained in the selected paper (30 points maximum).

Attendance the laboratories and lab reports will give 6 points maximum.

The maximum score is therefore 36 out of 30, the honor (cum laude) is automatic after reaching 33 points.
