Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course the student will possess the basic knowledge of the mechanisms of action for drugs both fior the terapeutical and the toxical aspects for all drug classes. In particular the student will be able to:

know the side effects for drugs following the exposure uncontrolled by food and environment.

Course contents

Chemotherapy: antibacterial, antiviral, antiprotozoal, and antineoplastic drugs. Drugs affecting gastrointestinal function: Agents used for control of gastric acidity andpeptic ulcers. Drugs acting on the blood: hematopoietic agents anticoagulant, thrombolytic, antiplatelet, antifribinolytic drugs. Bronchodilatators and other agents used in the treatment of asthma, Antitussive agents and mucolitics. Cardiovascular system: drugs for the treatment of cardiac insufficiency and myocardial ischemia, antiarrhythmic, antiangina, antihypertensive agents and the drug therapy of hypertension. Endocrinal pharmacology: thyroid and antithyroid drugs, agents used for control of gastric acidity andpeptic ulcersestrogens, progestins, androgens and their antagonists, oral hypoglycemic agents. Antiinflammatory drugs.Drugs of the autonomous nervous system: cholinergic and adrenergic agonists and antagonists, drugs relaxing skeletal muscles. Drugs acting on the central nervous system: general anesthetics; local anesthetics; medicines for Parkinson's disease; sedative-hypnotic drugs; antipsychotics; antidepressants; antiepileptic; opioid analgesics and their antagonists; drugs of abuse.

Assessment methods

The Assessment is via oral interview that will tend to verify, through a series of questions, the knowledge of the topics described in the teaching program. Registration for the oral examination is carried out regularly on Alma esami. Being an integrated course, the examination will be held only after the overcoming of the course (Pharmacology I) or may be substained together, on the same day.
