Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have a preparation that allows him to recognize the conditions pertaining to the oral surgery. In particular, the student is able to: - know what diseases are attributable to the oral surgery - recognize the main instruments used for oral surgery - recognize the main materials used in oral surgery - recognize the main and most frequent diseases that need a treatment of oral surgery - know the methods of approach to oral hygiene in a patient undergoing a treatment of oral surgery - organize a surgical environment - know how to attend an oral surgery.

Course contents

During the course of oral surgery topics covered are: Surgical instruments The third molars (wisdom tooth from a germ) The third molars and their periodontal problems The impacted canine Dental elements supernumerary The agenesis Cystic neoplasms The problems of frenula Neoplasms of the oral cavity and their treatment The bone reconstructive surgery, with particular attention to the role of the hygienist at various stages Overview of orthognathic surgery

Teaching methods

Lectures with slides, videos, and live support to surgery relevant to the course program.

Assessment methods

Questionnaire with open-ended questions. Oral exam based on the answers of the written assignment.

Slides, movies, live support surgical procedures covered in the course, and relevant bibliographic references.Hand-out of the lessons at the end of the course.
