Unibo lands in Brasil to enhance studies in coastal evolution

An agreement between the Alma Mater Studiorum and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) has been recently signed aiming to the creation of a joint research laboratory with double seats, one in Bologna, and the other one in Porto Alegre, Brasil.

The laboratory will be realized within the geological marine laboratories of the UNIBO’s Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences and the laboratory of the UFRGS’s Institute of Geoscience.

The project is a significant opportunity since it facilitates the access to a unique area for marine geology and environment and it encourages scientific collaboration and exchange of knowledge techniques.

The agreement is consistent with the EU Blue Growth strategy, aimed to support sustainable development in the marine and maritime sectors and is considered as a booster for European development and innovation.

The new laboratory, furthermore, represents a strategic initiative to strengthen international cooperation. Its research topics, indeed, are included within the wider framework of the two countries’ strategic agendas, as well as the Italian – Brasilian and European – Brasilian bilateral cooperation activities.
