Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS) in Sciences and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activities

The core objective of the programme is to equip students with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to work as specialists in the field of physical activities for well-being and adapted physical activities, along with a sound scientific basis on which to carry out complex activities in the field of human physical activity, with a particular focus on preventive and adapted activities.The programme also aims to equip students with the knowledge necessary to increase physical efficiency and maintain it throughout a person's lifetime, both in healthy subjects and in groups predisposed to, or affected by chronic degenerative disorders with a high social impact. Students will develop skills aimed at using physical therapy as a means to prevent and recover from health problems faced by children, adolescents, the elderly and the disabled.In order to achieve the learning outcomes described above, the master's degree programme is structured in a way that allows students to learn progressively, culminating with an internship that is worth 20 credits.This enables students to progress gradually and continuously in their acquisition of the multidisciplinary knowledge necessary to prepare them for a professional role in this field.The thematic areas covered focus in particular on:1. Technical-training areas of learning Graduates of the Second Cycle Degree/two-year Master programme:- understand the principles for performing health assessments and prescribing physical therapy, taking into account gender, age, and health status, whether for preventive, corrective or rehabilitation purposes - understand the fundamentals of the biomechanics of human movement, the main protocols used in movement analysis and the technological solutions available for physical rehabilitation - understand the key role that physical activity plays in the ageing process, in particular on the progressive reduction of the capacity for physical activity and on individual performance - understand the various types of deficit: physical, sensory and intellectual-relational and learn the teaching techniques and tools for managing physical activity with people with disabilities - are able to identify and differentiate the stages of prevention and compensation and to draft a personalised work protocol for each person with postural impairment, applying the teaching methodology adapted also for the elderly.2. Biomedical areas of learning Graduates of the Second Cycle Degree/two-year Master programme:- understand the responses of the human body to physical exercise at different levels of intensity, both in healthy subjects and in stabilised and controlled clinical conditions, concomitant with or subsequent to various pathologies, taking into account gender, age and physical health condition - are aware of the drug therapies that can have an effect on the response to exercise - understand the main physiopathological and clinical categories that can benefit from appropriate physical therapy programmes and the limits imposed by these clinical conditions on the physical commitment regime, whether in healthy subjects or clinically stabilised patients. 3. Psycho-pedagogical and sociological areas of learning Graduates of the master's degree:- possess the socio-psychological, sociological and special pedagogical knowledge that enables them to assess the personal and socio-environmental conditions of their patients and to communicate effectively with the same, taking into account their age, health condition and sociocultural environment - understand the main theories in relation to social groups formed in childhood, adolescence, adulthood and middle age in scholastic, work and recreational environments - understand the changes that occur in groups and individuals at the cognitive, behavioural and emotional levels and at various ages, characterised by specifically defined backgrounds of deviancy and marginalisation- understand and identify changes taking place in modern society and in the field of culture and communication, comprehend how these changes are inter-connected and contextualise them within the theoretical framework of post-modern society - further deepen their knowledge of the increasing social importance of physical activity, relative to rise in the amount of free time people have and according to the growing body of research, by different social levels and categories, and of the improvement in physical well-being through fitness and wellness activities and in general through people taking better care of their body and image.Finally, the master's degree programme enables students to apply the multidisciplinary knowledge acquired by undertaking an internship worth 20 credits with an organisation with which the university has an agreement, during which they will gain practical experience in the areas of preventive, post-rehabilitation and adaptive physical activities. At the end of the programme, students will take a final exam involving the discussion of a written dissertation of an experimental nature on a topic related to the programme curriculum.
