Giovanna Russo

Cultural sociologist (National Scientific Qualification, Full Professor – ASN 2023‑25), I study cultural and communicative production and consumption, with a focus on emerging cultures of wellbeing and sustainability, including sport, physical activity, wellness, and disability. I also conduct research on leisure practices in multicultural contexts, particularly at the intersection of sport, religion, and migration. I was PI of the AlmaIdea 2022 “NextGenerationEU” project The Cultural Production of Sport and the City. I have contributed as research unit member to PRIN 2022 Sport Politics: Football, Media, and National Identity in Italy (1968‑2006) and dis‑ABILITY!: Challenging the stigma of disability through media representation of the Paralympic Games. I co‑direct (with B. Mazza) the FrancoAngeli book series Sport, Culture, Society, and serve on the Scientific Committee of AIS‑Sport and the ESA RN28 Sport & Society.
