Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students are expected to acquire a basic knowledge of the Italian language with particular regard to the language of fashion. They will know the field-specific terminology and will be able to start basic communication with operators in the field. The activities and exercises planned during the course are also aimed at enhancing the cultural aspect implicit in the Italian language of fashion.

Course contents

Teaching activities focus on basic knowledge of the language of fashion through the development of linguistic and textual analysis skills of practical documents, in order to initiate students in understanding texts related to fashion industry-specific English.

Course Objectives:
- Acquire basic knowledge of fashion industry vocabulary and terminology in English.
- Develop skills in linguistic and textual analysis of practical documents (catalogs, product descriptions, lookbooks, data sheets).
- Foster comprehension of texts specific to the fashion industry.
- Develop skills in interpretation and production of short, practical texts.

Teaching methods

 

Exercises associated to the course objectives are envisaged, in order to gain control of the comprehension and translation of the texts.

There is no distinction between attending and non-attending students.

 

Assessment methods

The final eligibility exam will consist of a written multiple-choice/true-false questionnaire: it will assess field-specific terminology and the student's ability to understand and write about the literature (books, journals, etc.) in this area.

The questionnaire will include topics from Syllabus 2026 and content from lectures.

The outcome of the eligibility exam is expressed with a judgment of suitability / non-suitability.
