- Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical methodologies for products and processes (cod. 6006)
-
from Dec 03, 2025 to Dec 18, 2025
Learning outcomes
The students will gain experience on how to synthetize, purify and test inorganic materials. Moreover, a in depth look will be given on the production and characterization of ceramic materials from the formulation to the final product.
Course contents
The course includes frontal lectures concerning the theory and successive experimental practice in the laboratory. The experiments will involve the synthesis, purification, and testing of commercially widespread inorganic materials (zeolites and titanium oxide).
Experiences involving ceramic materials will be performed in two local industries. These will focus on the production process and characterization of ceramic materials at different stages of preparation.
The course will include a brief description of the most common X-ray diffraction technique.
Teaching methods
The course will mostly include practical sessions in the laboratory (in and outside campus). Previously, frontal lectures concerning the theory of these experiences will be done so that the students will be informed on the practice, theory, and safety of the experiments that they will perform.
Considering the typology of activities involved the students must have acquired module 1 and 2 (e-learning) and module 3 of specific safety training concerning health and safety.
Assessment methods
This teaching will not lead to a final examination but only to qualifying test.
This test will be considered passed once the student sends good quality reports of all the laboratory experiences performed. The reports must be delivered by March 1st.
Participation to the lectures (theory and practical) is mandatory. The minimum attendance required between laboratories and theory to obtain eligibility will be 75% (attendance will be collected through signatures). If the absences include laboratory experiences it will be necessary to make up for the activity through alternative activities proposed by the teacher.
Teaching tools
Lecture slides will be available on Virtuale.
Registration of the theory lectures will be available on demand.
Students unable to follow the theoretical lectures are required to notify that to the professor and to come prepared and informed to the practical sessions in the laboratory (especially on safety regarding the protocols applied).
