Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has a conceptual and practical preparation to carry out observation and monitoring of the oral cavity. He is also able to recognize and use the instruments necessary for the patient's visit in relation to the tasks of Dental Hygienist. In particular, the student is able to:

• Observe the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity including the lips and perioral areas and recognize their anatomy, health and pathological manifestations.

• Recognize and know how to correctly use the instruments necessary for the examination and intraoral diagnosis.

• Knowing and being able to detect the main clinical indices and dare to the correct diagnostic and functional significance of patient monitoring from the data collected.

• Recognize, know how to use and correctly choose the instruments necessary for the knowledge of the main parameters relating to health and dento-gingival pathology.

• Knowing how to indicate the times and procedures indicated for monitoring the individual patient.

• Know and know how to compile the medical record of competence of the dental hygienist.

Course contents

The lessons will deal with several topics as a whole distinguishable in two macro-groups:

- clinical indices and their interpretation

- deviations from normal anatomy and their annotation

The student will also be involved in practical exercises on the patient aimed at transferring into practice what was presented during the lectures.

In consideration of the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, the attendance of this training activity requires all students of modules 1 and 2 to carry out e-learning [https://www.unibo.it/it/servizi-e -opportunities / health-and-assistance / health-and-safety / safety-and-health-in-places-of-study-and-training] and participation in module 3 of specific training on safety and health in study places .
