Learning outcomes
The Course is aimed at providing knowledge of the different kinds of instrumentation for the measurement, diagnostic and characterization of components and systems employed in electrical engineering. Their operating principle, architecture, accessories (sensors, probes, …) and criteria for their proper choice according to the application are dealt with in depth. Guide to their correct use and to the evaluation of the uncertainty affecting the measurement performed with such instrumentation are also provided.
Course contents
1. Uncertainty evaluation in measurements with digital instrumentation
2. Digital Communication protocols used in Electrical Power Systems and in Electrical Sector in general
3. Input Conditioning Circuits in Digital Instrumentation for Electrical Engineering and correct procedures for connections with devices under tests
4. New generation of Instrument Transformers used in Smart Grids: LPIT (Low Power Instrument Transformers)
5. Modern instrumentation for Electrical Engineers - Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU)
