General information on post-doctoral positions
Who can hold a post-doctoral position
Holders of a post-doctoral position sign a fixed-term employment contract with the University. These contracts cover research activities, possible contributions to teaching (supplementary activities and services to the student community), and third mission activities, all carried out under the supervision of a scientific supervisor (tutor) appointed by the hosting department.
Post-doctoral positions have a minimum duration of one year and may be renewed up to a maximum total of three years, depending on the objectives and type of project and the availability of financial resources.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a suitable scientific and professional curriculum and hold one of the following:
- A PhD or equivalent qualification, obtained in Italy or abroad.
- A medical specialization diploma, for the relevant fields.
Non-eligibility
The following are not eligible to apply: permanent staff of the institutions referred to in Article 22, paragraph 1, of Law 240/2010, and those who have already held fixed-term researcher contracts pursuant to Article 24 of Law 240/2010, as amended following the entry into force of Decree-Law No. 36 of 30 April 2022, converted with amendments into Law No. 79 of 29 June 2022 (RTT)
Application process
Post-doctoral positions are awarded through a public selection process.
Candidates are assessed through a comparative evaluation of qualifications and an interview, aimed at verifying that their scientific and professional curriculum is suitable for the activities described in the call.
Compensation
The minimum allowance is set by Ministerial Decree No. 592 of 6 August 2025, and may not be lower than the initial salary of confirmed researchers on part-time contracts, class 0.
The amount for each position is specified in the relevant selection call and in the contract.
Training and professional development
The University promotes the professional development of its staff through induction programmes for newly hired personnel and training opportunities dedicated to research quality and innovation. Post-doctoral researchers must also complete mandatory training in occupational health and safety and in personal data protection.
