People

Our broad community of students, academic and professional staff has different roles and responsibilities while sharing the same values and goals. With 3,448 lecturers and 3,395 professional staff, the university supports a community of 96,945 students, including 9,826 international students. During a.y. 2023/24, 3,289 students from abroad chose Bologna for an exchange period, while 3,888 people enrolled at the University spent time studying abroad and building a living, evolving community every day.

The University

The University of Bologna is a dynamic and complex system covering 5 campuses: Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, and Rimini. With 31 departments, 11 of which received a recognition of excellence from the MUR in 2023, the university promotes research and teaching activities. It also includes 18 centres and over one million square metres of space dedicated to education, research and culture, including 98 libraries and 15 museums.

The Programme Catalogue

A wide range of degree programmes designed to meet the needs of each individual, ranging from basic to advanced and lifelong learning. The programme catalogue includes 104 first-cycle degree programmes, 144 second cycle degree programmes and 14 single-cycle degree programmes, 110 of which are international and 91 taught entirely in English, reflecting a strong global vocation. For those wishing to further their knowledge and specialisation, the University offers 51 PhD programmes, 59 specialisation schools and 86 first- and second-level Professional Master's degrees. Lifelong learning is supported by numerous opportunities for further education and training, also designed to accompany professional development.

What we are working on

The university promotes research with a view to the advancement of society and collective well-being, with over 370 projects funded at European level, over 780 at national level and over 630 at regional and local level. The 28 approved NRRP projects testify to the commitment to developing innovative solutions. This inclination is reflected in the 59 active spin-offs and start-ups and the 800 patents and plant varieties, concrete examples of how research can generate useful applications for the community and contribute to a sustainable future.
