Indicators and number of universities analysed

The 'Academic Ranking of World Universities' (ARWU) is drawn up by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

The survey, published on the 'Academic Ranking of World Universities' website, has been active since 2003 and uses six indicators, each of which is given a weighting.

This year, 2500 universities were ranked.
