B3854 - Laboratory in Tourism Product Development

Academic Year 2023/2024

Course contents

The course is designed as an experimental educational project of "community-based service learning". Participating students will be called upon to (i) deepen their knowledge of the local places, history, and culture of the Rimini Province through a series of fieldtrips and the interaction with local communities, and (ii) use their skills and creativity to benefit the region itself by providing a service in the form of a "public good", for instance delivering

-contents that might be useful for promoting tourism in this area on social media and other communication channels,

- ideas for marketing campaigns targeting to specific market segments

- suggestions for the creation of new tourist routes or itineraries to propose to the public.

-New storytelling methods in inner areas

Readings/Bibliography

Reading will be assigned to students upon request, based on the specific topics they will decide to focus on for their groupwork assignments.

Teaching methods

The course will start with just a few traditional lectures to be held in class, and will continue with a
combination of field work and groupwork at home. A series of educational trips will indeed be proposed.
A total number of 4 excursions are planned over the entire fall term, taking place on the following
Wednesdays:
Wednesday, October 18th
Wednesday, October 25th
Wednesday, November 8th
Wednesday, November 15th

All excursions will last the entire day, which might require participants to miss some of the other
scheduled classes on that day. Participation in the fieldtrips is mandatory, except with valid justifications.
Your study program will cover all expenses related to the excursions, except for meal costs. All visits will take place in various municipalities in Valmarecchia, one of the inland territories of the Province of Rimini.
Note that, given the nature of the laboratory, the course schedule will not necessarily follow the one currently posted on the official websites of the study programs, and some activities will extend beyond the end of the first sub-cycle, hence until December 2023. However, the first lesson will take place as planned on Wednesday, September 20th, from 13:00 to 16:00 in Alberti 2 classroom. Subsequent dates for the other lectures will be communicated in class.

Assessment methods

Students will be requested to engage in constant teamwork to prepare presentations through which they
can showcase their work and present their ideas. The evaluation of each student will be based on
individual contribution to the groupwork and the quality of the presentations delivered.

The grade is graduated as follows:
<18 failed
18-23 sufficient
24-27 good
28-30 very good
30 e lode excellent
