Learning outcomes
The course is an introduction to soil mechanics and applications of its principles to the engineering practice.
Course contents
MODULE 1. Soil description and classification. State parameters and Stress history. Groundwater: permeability and seepage. One dimensional consolidation. Soil behaviour: shear strenght and critical state soil mechanics. Soil behaviour: stiffness. In situ tests. Laboratory tests. Earth pressures. Retaining walls. Shallow and deep foundations.
