Learning outcomes

ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019 LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide students the basic knowledge on the identification of patients' distress conditions and the appropriate forms of interventions, and the basic skills to manage physician's relationship with patients. At the end of the course the student will know the principal theoretical models, having a deepeer understanding of psychopathological syndroms, psychological assessment and interventions. The student will understand the factors behind the development and maintainance of symtom manifestations across childhood and adulthood (trauma, psychic conflict, defense mechanisms, stress)ò the emotional implications related to physical illness, therapy and hospitalization (defensive reactions, compliance, placebo effect, burnout). He/she will be able to apply the basic priciples of psychological intervantion in health care and practice, with particular attention to the flow of the clinical interview and the dynamics of the relationship with patients.

Course contents

Theoretical models of clinical psychology: clinical method.
Psychological development and organization of normal and pathological personality.
The clinical interview in healthcare and the management of relational dynamics.
The stress.
Somatization.
Psychological intervention in the health field.
Burnout in the health professions.

The exam consists of a oral examination test  aimed at ascertaining the knowledge required by the program and the acquisition of skills in the clinical psychology field. The written test of clinical psychologist usually takes place the day before the oral test of Psychiatry. To pass the examination of the Integrated Course of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology it is necessary to pass the tests of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology (that is in the same appeal) and positively. Any positive result obtained in one of the two tests shall not be considered valid for subsequent.

 

The Clinical Psychologist test usually takes place the day before the oral Psychiatry test. To pass the exam of the Integrated Course of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, it is necessary to obtain a positive result in both Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at the same time (or in the same session). Any positive result obtained in only one of the two tests is not considered valid for subsequent appeals.

Verification of learning takes place through an oral exam in the following way:

 -preparation on a limited number of topics in the program and analysis skills highlighted with the help of the teacher, expressed in an overall correct language: vote 18-19;

-preparation on a limited number of program topics and mainly autonomous analysis skills, expression in correct language: vote 20-24;

preparation on a large number of program topics, critical analysis skills, command of terminology: vote 25-29;

exhaustive preparation on the topics of the program, capacity for critical analysis and connection, argumentation and self-reflection, excellent command of terminology: vote 30-30L.
