Learning outcomes

M-PSI/05: At the end of the activity students will know: how to apply community psychology methods and principles in the development of a community-based project, focusing in particular on stakeholder analysis, needs analysis, analysis and definition of objectives, elaboration of an evaluation plan.

M-PSI/08: At the end of the classes, students will be able to carry out an appropriate assessment and will know how to apply the correct clinical methodology according to the single clinical case.

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester (October-January) for the M-PSI/05 part and during the second semester for the M-PSI/08 part (March-May) at the Cesena Campus (address: piazza Aldo Moro, 90 and v.le Europa, 115).

M-PSI/05 (Modules 1/1 and 1/2 Social Psychology, Teachers: Silvia Moscatelli and Elisabetta Crocetti)

The laboratory will allow students to learn and apply the methods and instruments of social psychology with respect to the experience of migration. Particular attention will be payed to the main strategies of prejudice reduction and social integration. Different types of acculturation orientations will be discussed, focusing on the perspectives of migrants as well as of the host society.

The laboratory includes the following activities:

  1. Analysis of the possible psychosocial outcomes of the migration experience, with a focus on different factors that can affect such outcomes. Various strategies aimed at reducing prejudice and promoting social integration of migrants will be considered.
  2. Critical analysis of interventions aimed to prejudice reduction and promotion of integration within different contexts (school, workplace, community, etc.). Evaluation of objectives, methods, feasibility, and effectiveness of the interventions. Discussion of their strengths and limitations.
  3. Planning of a new psychosocial intervention (objectives and methodologies).

M-PSI/08 (Module 2 Clinical Psychology; Teacher: Paola Surcinelli)

The program includes the presentation of the following contents: theoretical principles, conceptual bases and methodological aspects for conducting a psychological-clinical interview. The conceptualization and discussion of clinical cases and the conduction of the clinical interview in the context of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. The conceptualization and discussion of clinical cases and the conduction of the clinical interview in the context of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Conducting a clinical interview in the context of individual psychotherapy.

Teaching methods

M-PSI/05

In addition to brief lectures, teaching methods will include:

  • Practical exercise in small groups
  • Guided discussions
  • Literature research
  • Presentation and evaluation of a scientific article
  • Analysis of quantitative data
  • Gamification

M-PSI/08

Teaching methods will include practical applications, role-playing activities, and clinical case presentations.

Assessment methods

Active participation to the activities proposed during classes, and full attendance are essential criteria in order to be admitted to the final examination. Attendance will be verified at the beginning and at the end of each class.

M-PSI/05

To pass the exam students are requested to:

  • attend classes and participate to discussions
  • participate actively to a group presentation concerning the critical analysis of an intervention
  • contribute to a group presentation concerning the planning of a new intervention

M-PSI/08

Active participation to the activities proposed during classes and full attendance are essential in order to be admitted to the final examination. In order to pass the exam students are required to contribute to the design, presentation, and discussion of clinical cases and the design of both individual and group interventions.
