Learning outcomes

Students know the principles and the methods for risk evaluation in human population  exposed to toxic  compounds in  the environment and the workplace.

Course contents

Toxicology and Society.

General characteristics of the toxic responses.

Classification of toxic agents.

Spectrum of undesired effects.

Dose-response.

Mechanisms of toxicity: Tissue necrosis, apoptosis, fibrosis, mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, teratogenesis.

Risk assessment: hazard identification, dose-response assessment, risk characterization.

Case studies.
