The Regulations of the University of Bologna envisage various types of internship.
Article 4 of the 'University general regulation for the conduct of internships' (RD 1655/2014 dated 12/11/2014 - UB 218 dated 17/11/2014) defines:
- curricular internships;
- curricular and guidance internships;
- vocational internships (professional practice).
The 'Teaching regulation for curricular internships preparatory for teaching' (regulatory part) governs:
- curricular internships preparatory for teaching (known as TFA), as defined in Min. Decree 249 dated 10 September 2010.
PhD programme degrees and curricular internships
The current organisation of teaching activities on PhD programmes does not include curricular internships preparatory for teaching. At this time, these tools are available for students enrolled for first- and second-cycle degree courses, and 1st and 2nd level University master degrees, who are offered the opportunity to gain practical experience to compliment their University education, with recognition of the University educational credits envisaged in the study plan.
PhD programme degrees and curricular and guidance internships
Curricular and guidance internships may be activated in favour of PhD Students within 12 months of obtaining the degree (the first day of the internship must be with 12 months of obtaining the degree). These internships consist of a period of guidance and training on the job, in order to facilitate employability in the transition from University to the world of work. With a maximum duration of 6 months, these internships require the signature of an agreement between the University and the host body, as well as completion of a training project. The host body is required to pay a monthly stipend.
To activate these internships, please contact AFORM - Internship Coordination Office (convenzioni.tirocini@unibo.it - 0512099322).
PhD programme degrees and vocational internships
Article 16, para. 1, of the 'Regulation on PhD programmes' establishes that the Academic Board may authorise PhD Students to enrol for PhD programmes and, at the same time, do a practical or professional internships (vocational internships), on condition that their basis and timing guarantee proper performance of the activities envisaged for the PhD programmes concerned. Before starting the internship, the PhD Student must complete the specific form for requesting authorisation to carry out compatible activities (in Italian) [.pdf 370 KB].
A vocational internship is one envisaged by a specific regulation for admission into professional practice (e.g. as a lawyer).
This activity is not envisaged in the PhD programme that, by contrast, is intended to instil the skills needed to develop the scientific autonomy deemed essential for those who want to carry out highly specialised research.
Please contact the professional bodies concerned for information about activating a vocational internship.
