Main methodological approaches to the investigation of minerals, rocks and soils. Advanced structural and crystal-chemical analysis, XRD; solid state chemical analysis XRF, and thermal analysis. Electron microscopy. Geostatistical data analysis.
Course contents
1.Sampling methods and preparations.
2.Advanced XRD, XRF and TA.
3.Advanced morphological-textural and microchemical analysis, Elelctron Microscopy.
4.Geostatistical methods for data analysis.
Readings/Bibliography
1.Lecturer's notes.
2.G. Valdrè, U. Valdrè, Misure, CLUEB, Bologna
Teaching methods
General experimental and theoretical aspects are explained during the lessons. The course includes practicals in class and in laboratory. The training has the aim to give the student advanced practical tools to characterise the most common solid georesources. X-ray diffraction, XRF and SEM labs sessions will be used for the microstructural characterization of solids.
Assessment methods
Oral Examination.
Theoretical questions and practical exercise tests.
Teaching tools
Laptops and software models. Experiments and labs of XRD, XRF, TA and Electron Microscopy.
