Learning outcomes

The language classes aim to consolidate and expand students' language skills through the analysis of real texts about different topics in order to improve the oral and written skills, lexicon, grammar (Level C1/C2) and translation. Beginning with general language texts we will gradually move on to the more technical field-specific language contained in the following sectors: immigration, labor, health, education and housing rights.

Course contents

During the language practice classes (36 hours) held by Pilar Asarta https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/mariadel.asarta), students will work on specific linguistic aspects to achieve excellent language proficiency, thereby enabling them to make the most of the content and practice covered in the main lectures.

The practical classes are aimed, on the one hand, at consolidating and enhancing the student’s language skills and, on the other, at deepening linguistic and discursive aspects of Spanish within the employment, education and healthcare sectors. Through these classes, students develop practical communicative competence in all skills, both receptive and productive, enabling them to mediate, produce, and understand languages for specific and specialized purposes.

By using linguistic mediation as a tool for contrastive analysis, students will identify and appreciate the distinctive characteristics of both languages. Furthermore, they will expand their knowledge of Spanish morphosyntax, develop intercultural competence, and gain greater awareness of the specific sociolinguistic requirements of both languages.

Teaching methods

    ·Guided practice: each session includes medation exercises followed by group analysis.

    ·Group work: students work in groups to solve mediation problems.

    ·Critical analysis: discussion of the decisions made in each activity.

Assessment methods

· Translation of a text from Italian into Spanish (approximately 200 words) and a commentary on the topics analyzed in class during the course. You have 60 minutes to complete the task. The use of bilingual or monolingual dictionaries is not permitted.

· Apart from content, maximum accuracy in lexis and grammar is essential to obtain the highest grade (30/30). A minimum score of 18/30 is required to pass the exam.The paper will be assessed according to the skills required for C1 level of the Common European Framework. Up to 15 points are awarded for language accuracy and 15 points for content.

· The use of AI is prohibited. Any use constitutes a violation of academic integrity.

The grade of the written exam counts for one third of the final grade. Students are allowed to take the Mediation exam (lezioni frontali) only after having passed the written exam related to the language lessons (esercitazioni).

The exam is normally the same for all students, attenders and non-attenders.

ERASMUS students coming from European Universities must contact Pilar Asarta (mariadel.asarta@unibo.it) within the first two weeks of the course in order to understand the required linguistic level, programmes and assessment methods of both parts. Students who don’t contact the indicated professors at least 2 months before the exam will not be admitted to the exam. Italian level of at least B2, according to the CEFR scale.

All students must enrol in the lists in Almaesami for each exam they intend to do and for their final mark registration. Students doing an exam must present their university badge or a valid ID with photo.
