Learning outcomes

By the end of the laboratory the student: knows the main research methodologies in the respective field of study; acquires an in-depth knowledge of the structure and organization of an argumentative text; is able to collect and organize primary and secondary sources, and to write a bibliography; knows how to apply appropriate editorial criteria in the finalization of the text.

Course contents

The workshop is intended for students who wish to prepare a thesis on topics in the field of film and television.

Topics covered:

• What is a thesis
• Choosing a topic
• The bibliographical and filmographic research
• The sources: primary, secondary, oral, archival, digital
• Structuring the text: table of contents and structure of the thesis
• Argumentative writing
• Citations and notes
• Drafting, editing and formatting the text
• Ethical and effective use of Artificial Intelligence

No new registrations will be accepted after the first week of the course.

Teaching methods

During the lectures, students will be encouraged to participate actively in discussions and exchanges of views on the topics covered. A number of practical exercises will be carried out using the ‘Laboratorio Tesi 2026’ class notebook in Microsoft OneNote (accessible following authentication on the University’s cloud).The notebook will be made available to students once they have enrolled on the course.

Assessment methods

The workshop activities do not result in a grade. Students are considered eligible if they participate in at least 80% of the lessons.

Active participation by students is strongly recommended, and attendance may be verified through online questionnaires or by filling out registers and signature sheets. Students who attend classes and correctly complete the exercises published on Virtuale/OneNote will automatically pass the course. Otherwise, they will have to take the oral exam.

Students who are unable to attend the in-person workshop must prepare for the online course content and complete all the exercises, as well as study one of the books listed in the bibliography and discuss the exercises during the oral exam. It goes without saying that if the exercises have not been completed correctly, the exam will have to be repeated.
