Learning outcomes
The Laboratory consists of two cycles of interactive seminars and is open to anyone wishing to explore in greater depth the protection of rights in the digital society. Attendance is particularly recommended as a complementary activity to the course on Digital Platform Law, taught by Professor Chiara Alvisi.
The Laboratory’s teaching activities are divided into two mini-courses focusing on dispute resolution in the digital environment (Module 1 – Online Dispute Resolution, 10 hours) and on the protection of personal data online (Module 2 – Online Data Protection, 10 hours).
The aim of the Laboratory is to provide participants with in-depth insight into the most relevant issues concerning the protection of users’ rights when using the main digital platforms, from the perspective of consumers, professionals, or small and medium-sized enterprises.
At the end of the Laboratory, students will be able to:
i) understand the main online dispute resolution tools, both those established by legislation and those based on self-regulatory mechanisms offered by major digital platforms;
ii) understand the key features of EU law on the protection of personal data online and identify the main critical issues related to the processing of personal data by large, commonly used digital platforms;
iii) take on the role of active citizens in assessing the transparency and corporate social responsibility of large digital platforms, in order to make the most of innovation while at the same time safeguarding the values of openness, fairness, pluralism, democracy, and security that underpin the European Union.
